Below are some effective food safety practices to help prevent biological hazards;

• Proper hand washing: Biological hazards are known as living organisms that can contaminate food. It will be good to know that when hands are dirty, some invisible microorganisms on the hands can get into the food and contaminate it. Often, these organisms can be seen with the use of a microscope. To prevent these organisms from getting into our food, we must make sure that we wash our hands as often as necessary.

While food workers must wash their hands always, there are some crucial times when we must wash our hands. These include;

• After visiting the restroom.

• After sneezing.

• After touching raw food or food products.

• Before wearing a new hand glove.

• Before and after touching meat.

• Avoid cross-contamination: Food Cross-contamination occurs when one food contaminates another. That is when one food spoilage bacteria already present in one food is been transferred to another food. This is one of the risk Factors in Food preparation. Cross contamination can happen through any food but it is common in raw food. To avoid this, do not touch other food products after you have touched raw food like meat. Kindly wash your hands properly if you must touch another food after touching raw food products to avoid cross-contamination.

• Proper Food cooking: Cook your food properly to at least 75 °C or hotter. This will help to get rid of any living organisms in the food if already present in it. If not present, it can help to prevent the organisms from getting into the food. Hot foods are usually less contaminated by organisms compared to cold food. You can use a thermometer to check the temperature of your food.

• Organize food properly in the refrigerator: If you must store your food, make sure that they are well organized in the refrigerator. A ready-to-eat food product can be contaminated if stored with raw food or food products.

• Proper food reheating: If you must eat a leftover chicken or pizza, ensure that you reheat it to the exact temperature the food was cooked. This will help to get rid of any food spoilage bacteria or organisms in the food.

• Cook foods made from raw eggs thoroughly: Bacteria present inside the egg and on the eggshell can contaminate your food if not properly cooked. It is therefore important to take extra safety measures when dealing with raw eggs. Make sure foods made from raw eggs are properly cooked before eating.
